By downloading, installing, or using the Pause mobile application or visiting getpausenow.com (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms apply to all users of the Service, including waitlist registrants, free-tier users, and premium subscribers.
Pause is a private communication-support tool designed to create a pause between emotional impulse and the act of sending a message. It is a self-regulation aid, not a substitute for professional mental health care.
Pause is not: therapy, counseling, psychiatric treatment, medical advice, or a crisis intervention service. Nothing in the Service constitutes or should be construed as professional mental health advice. Reliance on any information provided by the app is solely at your own risk.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Pause. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at hello@getpausenow.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
You may not create an account on behalf of another person without their consent, or use the Service to impersonate any person or entity.

Free tier: Pause offers a free tier with unlimited private drafts, basic delay timers, and outcome tracking. No payment information is required.
Premium subscription: Certain features — including unlimited AI interventions, full pattern insights, multiple relationship contexts, and cloud sync — require a paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed on a monthly or annual basis through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
The reflections, rewrite suggestions, and other AI-generated content provided by Pause are produced by automated systems and are intended solely as prompts for personal reflection. They do not constitute professional advice of any kind. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on content generated by the Service.
AI-generated content may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate for your specific situation. Always use your own judgment.
Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in the Privacy Policy.
The Pause name, logo, app design, and all original content within the Service are owned by or licensed to Pause and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.
Your draft messages and personal reminders remain yours. You grant us no ownership rights over the content you write in the app.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant that using Pause will result in any particular outcome in your personal relationships or communications.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PAUSE AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF RELATIONSHIPS, LOSS OF DATA, OR EMOTIONAL DISTRESS — ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $50, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Pause and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from within the app. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, with or without notice.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 10, 11, 12, and 14) will remain in effect.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service will be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the ADR Institute of Canada, except that either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against Pause.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
